Equipa de futebol nacional portuguesa

Hello I am Miguel Veloso. I play defensive mid-field and sometimes left back. I have followed in my father, Antonio Veloso’s, footsteps in playing football on Portugal’s national team. My team and I just arrived in South Africa for the FIFA world cup. They are very welcoming and accommodating here in South Africa. I’ve heard that around the 20th century South Africa started enacting segregation between whites, blacks, colored (white and black) and Asian. The South African people called it, apartheid. The apartheid laws decided where different races could go to school, work, and shop or even live. Blacks were paid far less than whites for similar work, and still even after the apartheid laws have been vacated, South white African’s income is about ten times higher than those of a black south African. There was even a point when foreign athletes would refuse to come play their sport in the country. Nelson Mandela was the man to stop the apartheid system and achieve political equality. Now with apartheid mostly abolished in South Africa, economic and cultural ties with other countries have been reestablished. Currently there is less than 10% of the population that is European compared to before 1994, when the Apartheid laws were still in act, where the majority of the population was composed of Europeans. There is still racial tension but people try to forget. With FIFA world cup coming there is going to be a lot of different varieties of races coming from all over the world but South Africa has ensured the safety of our fans and us.
